Ekaterina Bychkova ranked 97 thrashes Sania
Unknown Ekaterina Bychkova ranked 97 in the world shocked Sania Mirza in the $225,000 WTA Tour event in Bali with a straight set win in the singles first round on Tuesday.
Eighth seeded Sania, ranked 34, went down 3-6, 2-6 to Ekaterina Bychkova ranked 97.
As usual Sania claimed to have running high fever when she left Hyderabad for Bali.

Maria Sharopova proved too hot for Sania Mirza when she routed the Indian sensation in under one hour.
Maria asserted her supremacy to defeat Sania Mirza 6-2, 6-1 in just 59 minutes of play.

Unseeded Srichaphan shocks Davydenko.
The way unseeded Paradorn Srichaphan played in his 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 victory over No. 6 seed Nikolay Davydenko Friday in the second round of the US Open might cause tennis fans everywhere to pay a bit more attention to the brawny 26-year-old Thai .
Srichaphan employed a powerful forehand against Davydenko, tallying 21 forehand winners and controlling most of the match by making the 24-year-old Russian scurry and sometimes shrug in exhaustion at the shots he just could not reach. | |
Sania closes on to a clash with Sharapova.....
Sania Mirza defeated Marion Bartoli of France 7-6 (7/4) 6-4 victory over at the Arsmstrong Stadium here today.
Sania's powerful ground strokes proved too hot to handle for the 19-year old Bartoli whose defensive tactics backfired against her aggressive opponent.
Sania will now meet either Russian top seed Maria Sharapova or Julia Schruff of Germany for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Sania and Australian Bryanne Stewart went down 2-6 4-6 to French woman Emilie Loit and Aussie veteran Nicole Pratt.
Paes and Navratilova, Australian Open and Wimbledon champions in 2003, defeated French pair Tatiana Golovin and Fabrice Santoro 6-3 6-2 to advance to the second round.
Mahesh Bhupathi and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova faced formidable challenge from Tiantian Sun of China and Sweden's Simon Aspelin before emerging 4-6 6-3 7-6 (11/9) winners.
Shinobu Asagoe went thru to the third round of the US Open while Tiantian Sun of China lost to Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain.
